What Do I Need to Get Into Vet School?
Applying to vet school can seem intimidating. In this class, the requirements of each vet school are broken down and discussed clearly for you. Learn top tips in terms of getting work experience, writing your personal statement, and preparing you to follow your dream of becoming a vet. This gets you well-placed to make a strong Vet Science application at a top UK university!
An Introduction to Basic Vet Anatomy
The vet world is full of crazy sounding terminology, and this session will aim to give you a head start with some of the wacky words. We’ll look at some basic anatomy and relate this to what you might see in the clinic, and show you the similarities and differences between human and animal anatomy, in an effort to prove just how much you already know! This helps provide some safe topics you can use for your Veterinary interview.
Common Infectious Diseases and Vaccination
With infectious diseases like parvovirus, feline pancytopaenia, and kennel cough on the rise, we’ll talk about some of the most common conditions you might see in the clinic, and the science behind them. We’ll look at how vets ‘work up’ a case, health and safety, diagnostic techniques, and consider how the anti-vax movement is reaching even the far corners of the veterinary profession. Contemporary debates in vet science are also useful for students looking to study the topic!
Veterinary Case Studies: Now You’re the Vet!
Combining all the sessions we’ve worked through so far, this session will help you act like the vet and take you through each stage of a complex case, as you try and figure out what might be gone. We’ll teach you more in- depth anatomy and show you the importance of client communication and how important owners are in the diagnostic process. Plus, we’ll talk through some of the most cutting edge procedures and ground breaking technology being developed to help further research in the profession!
Immune Response and Vaccines
A detailed understanding of the immune system is essential to fighting disease and supporting animals through illness. This tutorial will discuss the basic principles of immunology as well as taking a look at the vaccines utilised by vets routinely. Immunology is a fundamental aspect of veterinary medicine. Demonstrating knowledge in this area will show that you are prepared for the rigours of veterinary education and practice.
Basic Life Support and First Aid in the Emergency Patient
Emergency situations can present to a clinic at any time, and it is vital to be able to recognise these and be able to deal with them in an efficient and timely manner. This session will help you understand what vital signs to look for in a critically ill patient, and the principles of how to provide first aid and basic life support. This will hone your understanding of Veterinary Medicine in practice, impressing admissions teams at Veterinary interviews, especially if you can share specific examples or cases you have encountered via practical experience in emergency veterinary care.
