Mandarin Lessons and Conversation (All Levels)

Beginner: The Beginner Mandarin Course is designed for students who are interested in Chinese with little previous experience on the language. Students can learn about Mandarin as a tool of communication, as well as gaining insights into Chinese culture and society.
· Understand the varieties of Chinese Language
· Understand and apply the phonetic system of Mandarin Chinese with ease (The Pinyin alphabet, the combination of initial, finals, and tones)
· Understand the formation of basic Mandarin Chinese characters. The order of strokes and how to write them.
· Understand simple words and phrases, which allows students to communicate in routine tasks requiring direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
· Acquire 300 – 1000 words and phrases.
· Develop a basic historical and cultural understanding of China.
· Further their Chinese language studies in GCSE.
Intermediate: The Intermediate Mandarin Course is complementary to the GCSE/ IGCSE syllabus across different exam boards in England. Students are able to develop a deeper understanding of Mandarin Chinese and learn to communicate confidently, effectively and coherently in all forms. The programme stimulates the student’s creativity, allowing them to learn independently while providing sufficient support and guidance. The course aims to help students reach the top GCSE levels and acquire a solid basis from which to progress to A-level.
· Communicate in Mandarin accurately and effectively to native speakers in Mandarin.
· Articulate and understand speech at near normal speed.
· Develop a greater understanding of Chinese history, cultural awareness, and the communities in China.
· Understand words and phrases that allow students to have daily communications.
· Acquire 1000 – 3000 words and phrases.
· Read and write structured text and paragraphs with up to 300 characters.
· Develop and express thoughts and ideas simultaneously in Mandarin Chinese.
· Progress the language studies at A level.
Advanced: The advanced level Mandarin Programme is created to help students master their language and communication skills in Mandarin and to speak fluently in various situations. The course allows students to explore Chinese culture, history and society in depth. It emphasises the learning of complex grammar, sentences and vocabulary, and the expression of opinions. Understanding the importance of creativity and critical thinking in language learning, the programme includes various activities for students to explore the subject of their interest and to conduct research. They are able to express their opinions in Mandarin using the complex sentence structure to discuss and debate the Chinese culture and current affairs. Students will also have the chance to explore their interest in depth in their independent study.
· Enhance the linguistic skills and develop critical thinking skills based on the knowledge and understanding of Mandarin, culture and society of Chinese-speaking world.
· Develop language learning skills and correction strategies to sustain communication and build confidence and fluency.
